All right. So sunday of my mom's visit....
Well lots of things aren't open here on Sundays so we decided to hit up the British museum and all of its massiveness. I showed my mom the Rosetta Stone and all of the statues that that fine place has to offer. We examined some 'interesting' artifacts from ancient Egypt and really just kind of explored the museum's massiveness. After that my mom had to get her British food flare by getting some pub fish and chips.....oh how long john silvers is going to pale in comparison when i get back...not that its anything to rave about anyway. Moving on.....we decided to take a little walk to the closed inns that i had discovered the other day, so we decided to head down towards the river and the tower of London. We had perfect timing for getting our tickets and hopping on the tour led by the Yeoman Warder. He was quite the cheeky fellow, what with his passes made at young lasses in the crowd. Afterwards we talked to one of the warders about the place being haunted (he didn't buy it) and all sorts of little things about the place. We then of course went to see the Crown Jewels. It's quite dangerous to go see the crown jewels with someone with experience selling the stuff (yes...i'd like to say that the fine quality of Howard Jewellers is akin to that of the Prizes of Britain!) Anyway, we took a few trips down the little conveyor belt discussing the clarity of stones and what not.....very very stunning those jewels.
After a spot of walking around the grounds we watched the Raven master try and herd the Tower's ravens into their cages for the night. Those cheeky little ravens....
After that there was a quick trick back to my flat and then off to go on a Haunted London tour...oooooh!!!
We were late getting there because the tube decided to stop on the tracks for awhile and wait. So we of course made an impression and were referred to as 'those people from Chicago' the whole trip. Oh well. We got to see the Tower Bridge open up at night (but of course didn't have a camera!!!) and hear all about the ghosts that haunt various London churches and other places, but it seemed like the majority of them were churches. After that a quiet pint at the Rising Sun pub, the only one open in the city of London on a Sunday (or so it seemed). And then back on to home.
The next day, Monday was my mom's last full day here in the country so we decided to go and do some walking. I took her into the open Inns of Court where we tried to get into Middle Temple (Davinci Code) but unfortunately it was closed) After that we decided to get into Westminster....for free. I've got connections. Anyway we explored Westminster Abbey for a while and gazed at its beauty. After that we decided to be posh and go to Harrods for some shopping. My mom bought some perfume and what not in order to get all of this free stuff and then we gazed in wonder at the food halls and all that they had to offer (like £11 sundaes!!!). That was exciting, but we had had enough. After that we decided to indulge in some Chinese food so it was off to Chinatown. We had probably the longest meal of my life with several courses and lots of digestion time. there was a wedding reception going on at the same time in the restaurant and they were causing quite a ruckus. After that we decided to opt out of watching a movie or seeing a play and decided to retire to another pub called the Rising Sun where we contemplated on our day and my mom's trip... Did i mention how great it was for her to be here?
